At the Human Support Group we know that our NHS is straining under the impact of winter, at a time when they are already under unprecedented pressure. In winter, although there are actually often fewer people arriving in hospitals than in other months; they arrive with more complications and the number of emergency admissions is higher. This places an additional burden on hospitals such as reduced bed access and the potential for hospitals to reach capacity.
This increased demand on services combined with factors including funding cuts, an aging population and severe staff shortages, is having a detrimental effect on emergency care.
